The Daily Mail newspaper in the UK, billed as the world’s most-read online news source, is carrying a glowing testimonial to “why beautiful Sri Lanka offers tourists the ultimate undiscovered island paradise”.
It says: “Impossibly scenic Sri Lanka is rammed with sandy beaches, beautiful national parks and a myriad of Hindu temples.
“From the honking traffic in the chaotic cities, through the myriad of Hindu temples, to the palm-fringed beaches and breathtakingly beautiful national parks crawling with exotic animals, the diverse island of Sri Lanka is packed with variety.”
It highlights four of Sri Lanka’s outstanding luxury hotels: the “stunning” Theva Residency” at Kandy; the “magnificent” Jetwing Vil Uyana eco-resort at Sigiriya; the “superb” Gal Oya Lodge at Gal Oya National Park; and the “gleaming” Anilana Pasikudah at Pasikudah Beach on the east coast.
And on the foodie front, it makes special mention of the Ministry of Crab in Colombo, owned by legendary cricketers Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara. “The crab is cooked as exquisitely as a Sangakkara off-drive and is beautifully presented in this capacious, aromatic restaurant.”
