Beirut online newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reports that Sri Lanka, Pearl of the Indian Ocean, “has a magical charm that cleanses the soul”, and that “to discover the unique touristic side of Sri Lanka, you should visit it personally”.
Says writer Sawsan Al-Abtah, pictured right: “If you are a fan of serenity, nature, and simple living, and you love jungle adventures and sea water, Sri Lanka must be your next destination.
“In Colombo, Sri Lanka’s commercial and capital and largest city, you can visit malls for shopping. However, it would be better if you wander in the city to discover its serenity, the beauty of its buildings, and the Sri Lankans’ keenness on maintaining an architecture that complements nature.”
The Hill Country and Cultural Triangle are also top of her list of must-see sights. “Wherever you choose to go in this magical country, do not miss the Sigiriya Rock. The Sigiriya fortress was built 1600 years ago and it is an astounding example of Sri Lankan art and culture.
“Make your trip an exceptional one and wander around the ruins, climb to the Sky Palace, then continue to the summit and enjoy the panoramic view that awaits you.”
