For the first of our Sri Lanka restaurant roundups, which we hope to make a regular feature in the coming months, we take a look at cuisines that are already firm favourites around the world— the often fiery Thai and, of course, Chinese.

Thai

For the first, a warm and spicy welcome to Singapore-based Nara Thai, pictured above, already voted by foodies as one of Thailand’s best, and which has now opened a new Sri Lanka franchise at 3 Deal Place, Colombo 3.

The Sri Lanka Mirror website reports boss Shafraz Anees as saying: “We are very proud to introduce Nara to the discerning food intellects of Sri Lanka.

“Our team here aims to serve our guests with the best service offering a delicious range of bold flavours and tastes that are bound to excite their senses.”

The Mirror continues: “The franchisee, Sri Lankan based Everbright Holdings, is renowned for specializing in the food and beverage industry in the country with a bevy of renowned global names under its belt.”

Meanwhile, as the number of Chinese visitors to Sri Lanka continues to grow, likewise the number of Colombo Chinese restaurants continues to serve the full menu of Oriental favourites.

Foodie website Yamu as conveniently listed a lucky 13 of the best, from standard to fine dining, including for the latter category Tsing Tao, “one of the few legit fine-dining Chinese restaurants in Colombo. They strike a good a balance between authentic and Sri Lankanized Chinese, in a chic and elegant setting”.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the scale, “Sunlight Garden is a hidden gem of a Chinese restaurant. They’ve got good food, huge portions and great value for money”.
