Sri Lanka’s ace foodie mag and website YAMU* has gone big on the upcoming Colombo Gourmet Week, “a chic blend of two delicious factors: top imported wines from some of the world’s top terroirs, and intricately curated course meals and tapas”.

To be held at the Galle Face Hotel from August 22–28, it will feature world-class sommeliers Josep Plana from Spain, Aurélie Maumus from France and Gonzalo Marina Del Rio from Argentina.

So, great wine will accompany some of the most outstanding cuisine ever to grace a Sri Lankan table, “a compelling line-up of exclusive events for gourmet food lovers and professionals in the food and beverage sector”, according to The Sunday Leader.

“These dinners will be open to both ticket holders and invitees, and will celebrate the wine and cuisine from four wine making countries: France, Italy, Australia, and South Africa.

“The curated dinners will take place from August 23 to 26 and cover Australian, Italian, South African, and Chilean gourmet cuisine and accompanying wines from these regions with the right bouquet to enhance the delectable flavours in the food.

“Each of the three sommeliers holds extensive international experience and are considered amongst the best sommeliers the world has to offer.”

Closure to home, says Yamu: “What Sri Lanka unfortunately lacks in wine-growing capacity, it makes up for with sheer quality of fresh local produce. There are some delightful commonalities between South African veges, fruits and spices (a possible attribution to the spice trail), and Sri Lankan ones.”

Jerome-SpeldewindeMeanwhile, reports that the week “will conclude with a high on Sunday the 28th of August with the soothing sounds of Sri Lanka’s famous Jazz and Blues band, Jerome Speldewinde (pictured right)!

“A mouth-watering fusion menu, many glasses of bubbly and soul-searching sounds of Jazz coupled with a relaxing view of the mesmerizing ocean which overlooks from the Varendha at the Galle Face Hotel will set your mood for an enjoyable afternoon with good friends and Family.

So there you go—get your bib and tucker ready for some foody fantasy washed down by some of the choicest wines available and sounds to die for!
