A visit to one of Sri Lanka Hill Country’s renowned spice gardens was a rich and rewarding experience for a tour group from Greece organized by Pledge Holidays.

In the capable hands of the garden’s most experienced and knowledgeable guide/lecturer, the group learned all about the many culinary and medicinal spices for which our Paradise island is famed.

After touring the garden and learning how individual spices are grown and processed to extract the essential ingredients, the group enjoyed a question-and-answer session complete with notes explaining the beneficial uses of our major spices.

They include cinnamon, our much-valued premier spice export; pepper, known as the ‘King of Spices’; cardamom, the ‘Queen of Spices’; nutmeg; cloves, a mainstay of our traditional ayurveda wellness treatments; ginger, found in everything from biscuits to ale; and turmeric touted as the cure for almost any medical condition.
