A new height of beachside luxury in the heart of Sri Lanka’s famed Weligama Bay
It could hardly get much better than Sri Lanka’s new luxurious Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa south-coast family resort—and don’t just take our word for it.
TripAdvisor gives it pretty much wall-to-wall five-star reviews—‘Brilliant addition to the South Coast’, ‘Perfect for families’, ‘Stunning views from Roof top’—and the pictures tell even more of the story.
Apart from the sand, sea and surfing, and the wellness therapies and treatments at the Quan Spa, it’s the food that truly hits the spot thanks to five first-class cafés and restaurants.
Familiar surroundings, brand new luxury
As the hotel says: “Tune in to the inspiring art of modern global hospitality, blend in with the unique flavours of a charming fishing village in Sri Lanka.”
With its 198 sea-facing rooms and suites in the heart of Weligama Bay, and within easy reach of the historic Galle Fort, it’s the “perfect for a mini break, a destination wedding, a refreshing venue for corporate meetings.”
And with nearly 400 square meters of ballroom space, scenic outdoor venues for al fresco celebrations, comprehensive meeting facilities and expert catering, it’s also perfect for business meetings, weddings and social gatherings.
Food—the heart and soul of the hotel
Tides International restaurant “is a hub of activity day and night. The lounge has a clearly defined bar which transitions from a coffee and pastry focus in the day to alcoholic beverages and snacks in the evening”.
Weligama Kitchen International, “a spacious, all day dining restaurant that has well defined zones, each serving a distinct cuisine and an interactive live kitchen adds to the dining experience”.
Big Fish Seafood, “a chef-driven restaurant in a casual upscale setting with a passion to create seafood inspired culinary feasts. Grill and seafood in abundance, serving simple fresh catch from the local fish mongers.
Surf’s Up Tapas, “refreshing cocktails at the pool, a bar serving simple Asian and Western nibbles through the day. Choose from a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, wines, beers and refreshing citrus based signature cocktails”.
Mirissa Baking Company Deli, “featuring fine coffee and specialty drinks as well as afternoon freshly-baked desserts and snacks”.
A good night’s sleep, perchance to dream!
And after all that over-indulgence, the hotel’s de-lux rooms all have direct sea view, a spacious balcony, 55-inch LED smart TV, media panel, complimentary high-speed Internet, mini-bar, tea and coffee makers, and a secure safe for valuables.
This TripAdvisor review just about sums it up: “A little piece of heaven! We had the most wonderful few days at the Weligama Bay Marriott— all the comforts and amenities of a large hotel with the character and luxurious feel of a boutique gem.
“And unlike many high-end hotels where you feel you could be anywhere in the world, this one manages to capture a local essence that makes you really feel like you’re in Sri Lanka.
“All in all, one of the best beach hotels I have ever stayed in—can’t wait to go back!”
