Luxurious new ‘eco-chic’ Club Med Ceylon resort ‘will be Sri Lanka’s hidden gem’

The luxurious new ‘eco-chic’ Club Med Ceylon resort scheduled to open in 2019 will offer “a slice of upscale refinement and active rejuvenation amidst its lush vegetation and sun-kissed beach”.

Reports TTG: “With 17 per cent growth in Australians travelling to Sri Lanka, Club Med, the pioneer of the premium all-Inclusive holiday concept, has announced its plans to open Club Med Ceylon, its first resort in the tropical country.”

“Positioned as a 4 Trident resort, Club Med Ceylon will offer Australian guests a slice of upscale refinement and active rejuvenation amidst its lush vegetation and sun-kissed beach.”

Sited in in the small town of Beruwela, a 90 minute drive from Colombo International Airport, it will provide “an unprecedented wholesome Sri Lankan experience, complemented by the resort’s eco-chic and vivid aesthetic that will feature wide airy spaces”.

Says Henri Giscard d’Estaing, President of Club Med: “We are very excited to venture into a new market with such potential – Sri Lanka is a beautiful and mystical country with rich history and culture.

“I am delighted to welcome Club Med Ceylon into the Club Med family. Together with our partner LOLC, we are very excited at the prospect of our resort in Sri Lanka growing into the region’s premium holiday destination in time to come.”

Ishara Nanayakkara, deputy chairman of Sri Lankan finance company LOLC, which is co-funding the resort, says the historic venture would be “a mutually-rewarding partnership that would add immense value to Sri Lanka tourism”.

He says: “As a destination, Sri Lanka has a diverse culture offering spanning nature, culture, religion, adventure and eco-tourism, and we are confident that it will ascend in popularity and profitability to become one of Club Med’s premier properties.”

The resort “will reflect Sri Lanka’s unique culture and cuisine, vibrant traditional colours, bustling lifestyle for guests to experience and will be the starting point for Australian guests to discover the surrounding breath-taking landscapes, rich wildlife and brilliant heritage sites of Sri Lanka.
