I do, I do I do I do..! Mass Chinese wedding in Sri Lanka, with our president the guest of honour
Seventy-five Chinese happy couples will be cock-a-doodling in Sri Lanka in this Year of the Rooster during a mass wedding at Independence Square in the capital Colombo.
Our tropical Serendib paradise is now a favourite must-visit for upwardly-mobile young Chinese travellers, and it’s sheer serendipity that the perfect honeymoon destination is also right here!
News.Asia reports that President Maithripala Sirisena will be the Guest of Honour at the grand ceremony and reception, during which he will hand over the wedding certificates.
The newly-weds will be entertained to dinner at the Water’s Edge in Battaramulla, and will leave the following day in three groups for a tour of Yala, Sigiriya and Kandy.
The event is being undertaken by the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Province Development together with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing and the Sri Lankan Tourism Authority.
More than 200,000 Chinese tourists arrived in Sri Lanka up to September far this year, and Tourism Minister John Amaratunga said recently that he was expecting more during the peak months starting October.
