Drive to attract more golfers to Sri Lanka tee’s off with visit by top journalists from Germany and Switzerland
A drive to attract more golfers to Sri Lanka has tee’d off with a visit by top journalists flown in from Germany and Switzerland.
They are visiting golf courses in Colombo, Hambantota, Nuwara Eliya and Kandy “to create awareness of the golfing space in Sri Lanka”.
The Sunday Times reports that “Sri Lanka Tourism is planning to attract golf enthusiasts to visit the country while touring the different regions where they could play”.
Sri Lanka Tourism hotshot Sutheash Balasubramaniam says they are targeting high-spending golfers who would love to combine their favourite game with a family holiday.
They are also hoping to attract international golf tournaments to play the country’s top courses.
Balasubramaniam added that they are looking at the possibility of promoting golf along with leisure “as otherwise it would not be easy to attract golfers to visit the country”.
Says The Sunday Times: “Sri Lanka hopes to attract holidaymakers from Europe, Australia, China, Japan and West Asia that would be interested in playing a round of golf while vacationing with family or friends.
“Moreover, the MD pointed out that this type of promotion is likely to position Sri Lanka as a destination that caters to upmarket visitors.
“Meanwhile, the government has now completed the selection of the agencies from the respective markets for its digital campaign to promote tourism in Sri Lanka.”
