As Culture Trip says, this is a land of many mysteries, and “the wonderful thing about Sri Lanka is that you can travel the whole width and breadth of the island within a single day”.

Cruise through Colombo

The best way to explore Colombo is by tuk tuk three-wheeler. Discover the Dutch Hospital, an ancient Dutch colonial building converted into a shopping complex, and the old lighthouse just a kilometer away.

See the ornate exterior of the old Parliament as you head towards the Gangarama, a scenic temple famous for its multitude of bronze Buddha statues overlooking a wondrous lake.

Explore the south

Head to Balapitiya to explore the scenic Madu River with its 770 hectares of mangroves, 64 islands and abundant wildlife.

Next up Galle for the turtle hatcheries, lovely seafood, the stilt fishermen, and Galle Fort—a magnificent 17th Century fortification named as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
